Remote sensing based on satellite imaging is commonly used in order to map heat anomalies at the earth’s surface. Accuracy related to satellite technique are in the range of 30-90m per pixel which limits the usefulness of the data. The project proposed to find a compromise between high accuracy thermal imaging with pixels of approx. 5-10cm and to cover area up to 1000 ha. This method can be then used in surveys for geothermal areas for finding hot spots, pipelines survey to find hot water leaks or even to improve safety at tourist sites.
The project was successfully achieved by the use of 3D printed parts to adapt a high resolution thermal and RGB camera to our fix wing UAV. In parallel, a study based on satellite imaging was used for comparison.
