We had an important visitor on Friday 23 April at ReSource. Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, Minister of Transport and Local Government, showed us the honor of coming to us with his colleagues where he acquainted himself with the activities at Resource and showed great interest in our projects.

The subject of the meeting was to review the situation in two projects that ReSource is working on for the Association of Local Authorities in Suðurnes (SSS). On the one hand, there is a feasibility study for an incinerator in Helguvík and, on the other hand, a project examining the basis for an “Eco-Industrial Park” in the Suðurnes region. These are projects that have sprung up from the channel “Suðurnesjavettvangur” which is a collaboration between all four municipalities in the area as well as Isavia and Kadeco (Keflavík Airport Development Association).

Karl Eðvaldsson, CEO of ReSource, reviewed the aims and goals of the projects and answered questions. Jóhann Friðrik Friðriksson, Chairman of SSS and President of the Reykjanesbær City Council, stated at the meeting that it was very important that both these projects were in line with the government’s and local authorities’ environmental priorities, climate policy and the implementation of the United Nations Global Goals adopted by the Icelandic Government on 28 April 2018.

The Minister said that he was very interested in the approach of Suðurnesjavettvangur and SSS in these matters. He said that the ministry would continue to monitor very closely what was happening  and it was well-demonstrated that the projects were well under way.
